RETAIL PRICES INDEX (RPI)

RPI is an average measure of change in the prices of goods and services bought for the purpose of consumption by the vast majority of households in the UK. It is compiled and published monthly.

Retail Prices Index (all items)

The November 2009 rate of inflation (RPI) was 0.3% per annum, compared to - 0.8% in October 2009. When mortgage interest payments are removed from the calculation, the inflation rate (RPIX) is 2.7%, up from 1.9% in October 2009.

THE NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE - £5.80 per hour, from October 1st 2009

  • The Adult Rate of the minimum wage (for workers aged 22 and over) rose to £5.80 from October 1st 2009.


  • The Development Rate (for workers aged 18-21 inclusive) rose to £4.83 per hour from October 1st 2009. The Development Rate can also apply to workers aged 22 and above during their first 6 months in a new job with a new employer and who are receiving accredited training.


  • The Youth Rate (16 to 17 year olds) rose to £3.57 per hour from October 1st 2009.
